During the current COVID-19 crisis, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and even state and local closure and shelter-in-place orders have recommended or required workplace use of face protection in the form of respirators, masks, and/or other face coverings. How do these various forms of face protection differ? What do the differences mean to employers’ legal obligations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act?
