As a shareholder in the firm’s Los Angeles office, Ryan devotes his practice to defending employers and businesses across a full spectrum of industries. In addition to routinely representing employers in both single plaintiff cases and arbitrations, Ryan has a broad class action, collective action, and representative action (Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA)) practice. He has defended businesses with matters related to job misclassification, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and all forms of wage-and-hour disputes.
Ryan has a favorable track record of defeating class certification and securing winning results for his clients. Well versed in counseling and advising employers at all stages of employment litigation, Ryan has served as lead counsel in successfully litigating labor and employment matters in appellate, federal, and state courts.
In addition to regularly presenting legal updates to trade associations and employers, Ryan also has significant experience with representing contractors, owners, and subcontractors with prevailing wage requirements on public works construction projects.
To achieve his clients’ goals of overcoming legal challenges and successfully executing their objectives, Ryan regularly appears in proceedings before various administrative agencies including the Department of Labor, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the California Civil Rights Department (formerly the Department of Fair Employment and Housing).
Ryan prides himself on being highly responsive to clients’ needs and guiding them through complex challenges with practical solutions and pragmatic policies. He counsels clients by identifying evolving legal developments and laws to effectively implement practices that reduce litigation and minimize risk.
After earning his Juris Doctor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Ryan began his legal career serving as a law clerk to Judge Jean P. Rosenbluth of the Central District of California.
