Cheyna is committed to helping her clients maintain productive and competitive workforces while navigating shifts in the legal landscape—like those created by COVID-19. With a solid understanding of the issues and trends, Cheyna provides swift action for clients by creating and revising compliant policies, providing timely recommendations to mitigate risk, and advising clients on effective policy implementation.
Cheyna also works with clients to address their day-to-day legal needs, and believes an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. She strives to become an extension of her client’s team by working diligently to keep her clients out of court and leveraging her understanding of the law to provide preventative advice and counsel on various workplace matters.
Cheyna understands that despite best efforts, litigation sometimes still arises, and when it does she stands ready to provide full-service litigation defense to her clients. Her first- and second-chair litigation experiences in both state and federal courts enables her to keep her clients one step ahead by previewing what comes next and advising on key strategy decisions. Cheyna has successfully defended many employers against claims of discrimination based on race, age, national origin, gender, pregnancy, disability, and religion, as well as claims of sexual harassment, blacklisting, and unlawful retaliation.
Cheyna has dedicated her career to advising and defending employers of all sizes. Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Cheyna served as an associate attorney with another national labor and employment defense firm, where she clerked for all three years of her law school career.
During law school, Cheyna sharpened her litigation and legal writing skills by serving as managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal (2021), winning the Championship title in the Alternative Dispute Resolution competition (2020), placing quarterfinalist in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition (2019, also earning Brief Honors and Oralist Honors), and placing semifinalist in the Transactional Drafting Competition (2019). She also fulfilled several leadership positions, including serving on the Graduate and Professional Student Government, acting as vice-president for the legal honors fraternity Phi Alpha Delta, and serving on the Dean’s Advisory Council.
Outside of work Cheyna really enjoys being creative—in everything from large-scale paintings to average-at-best carpentry. She also enjoys tent camping and hiking with her husband and two small children, and seeing live concerts across the country.
