Tae serves as a strategic business partner to clients, focusing on supporting and assisting them with the many workplace challenges they face on a daily basis. In addition to providing practical and business-focused solutions to employment disputes and issues, he also serves as the relationship partner to a broad portfolio of public and private companies spanning across numerous industries and ranging from those with national, multistate, regional, and international operations. In his role managing these relationships, Tae ensures that clients receive the full spectrum of expertise and resources that Ogletree has to offer.
As a trusted and proactive teammate to clients, Tae has gained national recognition for his personal investment in client relationships and commitment to exceptional service. Tae maintains a problem-solving approach to his practice and strives to deliver client-centric results. His primary goal in supporting companies is to provide them with extreme responsiveness, as well as collaborative, practical, and creative advice and counsel. He also leans into his life experiences and strengths in communicating with individuals of all levels within an organization to create a personal connection beyond the typical transactional attorney-client relationship.
As the co-chair of Ogletree’s Drug Testing Practice Group, Tae is a national subject-matter expert and thought leader on workplace marijuana and drug and alcohol testing issues. He regularly assists employers across the country in handling the rapidly evolving landscape of medical and recreational marijuana legalization laws and their impact on the workplace. In addition to providing pragmatic advice and counsel, Tae has also handled high-profile litigation involving these difficult issues.
Tae is also a veteran litigator who regularly represents clients before federal and state courts, arbitrators, and administrative agencies involving all types of employment claims. He also assists employers in disputes involving non-compete, non-solicit, trade secret, and other restrictive covenant issues. He has also frequently handled workplace investigations involving sensitive issues and matters involving board-level scrutiny.
Outside of substantive legal work, Tae is an active member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA). Tae previously served on the NAPABA Board and remains heavily involved in advancing the interests of NAPABA members through his service to the organization. Tae also formerly served as co-chair of Ogletree’s Employee Resource Group for Asian and South Asian attorneys and employees within the firm. Tae also plays a significant role in mentoring younger attorneys and colleagues across the firm and serves on his office’s recruiting committee.
In addition to client accolades, Tae has been recognized by his peers through his inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, receiving an “AV Preeminent” rating by Martindale-Hubbell, and being selected as a “Rising Star” by Alabama and Mid-South Super Lawyers and the Birmingham Business Journal.
Prior to joining Ogletree, Tae practiced general civil litigation in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated cum laude from the University of Montevallo in 2006, and from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2009 where he served on the Alabama Law Review. Outside of work, Tae is a husband and father to three children. He is an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and University of Alabama athletics and enjoys running and traveling.
