Florence Z. Mao

Associate   |   Portland (OR)

Flo Mao understands that employers need an attorney who partners with them and understands their business to resolve workplace issues long before they become legal disputes. She values proactive risk management and collaboration with her clients to achieve the best possible outcome.

Flo focuses her practice on helping clients navigate ever-changing employment laws and resolve workplace issues to avoid litigation. She provides counseling advice and assists with workplace investigations. When legal disputes arise, Flo represents employers in state and federal courts, private arbitration, and before administrative agencies. She handles all phases of pre-trial litigation and gets ahead early in litigation to evaluate objectively the risks of liability and potential exposure.

Flo has developed a reputation amongst her colleagues and clients as knowledgeable, hardworking, and responsive to their day-to-day needs. Several have noted that Flo is “in demand” to provide her services to clients in the Pacific Northwest. She is regularly called upon to advise on family, medical, and disability leave issues, and has a deep understanding of Oregon’s Paid Family and Medical Leave law.

Before joining Ogletree, Flo practiced employment law at two national firms defending local, regional, and national clients in Oregon and Washington. She also served as judicial clerk for Honorable Karin J. Immergut of the Multnomah County Circuit Court in Oregon (now U.S. District Judge for the District of Oregon).  Flo was recognized in the Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
