Sarah joined the Columbia, South Carolina, Ogletree Deakins office in January 2021 and has primarily focused on litigating employment discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims. A former staff counsel at the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission, Sarah has a keen appreciation for how the administrative agency process can limit or shape future litigation. She works to leverage this knowledge in assessing risk, evaluating claims, and filing responses or position statements. Sarah has represented clients in state and appellate courts in South Carolina, as well as in the District of South Carolina, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Among other claims, Sarah typically defends claims brought under Title VII, the ADA, ADEA, 42 U.S.C.A. § 1981, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and various South Carolina state law claims. She also assists clients beyond the courtroom by developing trainings, navigating child labor and fair housing investigations, and providing advice and counsel.
Sarah received her J.D. from Mercer University’s School of Law in 2014, where she also graduated with a certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science (with a focus on Global Affairs) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (with a concentration in Law, Liberty, and Justice) from Clemson University in 2011.
