Philip K. Sholts

Philip serves an of counsel attorney based out of Ogletree Deakins’ Washington, D.C. office. As a member of the firm’s Immigration practice group, Philip guides corporate clients in navigating the issues, strategies, and procedures involved with employment-based visa sponsorship, including nonimmigrant (temporary stay) visas and the permanent residence (green card) process.

Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins in July 2021, Philip exclusively practiced immigration law with a large international business immigration law firm. He has assisted multinational clients of all sizes in nonimmigrant matters, including H-1B, E-3, L-1, TN, and O-1 visa classifications, as well as the permanent residence process involving PERM labor certification, I-140 petitions in the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, and EB-1 categories for multinational managers, outstanding researchers, and individuals of extraordinary ability. Philip has experience with clients in a variety of industries, including information technology, consulting and professional services, energy, consumer goods, luxury goods, fragrances, food and flavor development, and pharmaceutical research and development.

As a law student and attorney, Philip has enjoyed providing volunteer and pro bono immigration services to Tahirih Justice Center, American Friends Service Committee, and asylum-seeking families detained at ICE’s Berks County Family Residential Center. Philip received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis and his Juris Doctor degree from the American University Washington College of Law, where he served as Associate Symposium Editor on the American University Law Review, Executive Editor on the American University National Security Law Brief, and as a member of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association.
