Seth Ensign is a seasoned litigator and trusted advisor with over a decade of experience handling complex employment and commercial disputes. As a shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Salt Lake City office, Seth focuses his practice on the full spectrum of employment law, including counseling employers on risk management, restrictive covenants, business torts, class actions, workplace policies, executive transitions, and day-to-day compliance matters.

Seth brings a diverse and practical perspective to his work, shaped by his experience as associate general counsel at Fifth Partners, a Dallas-based private equity firm. There, he advised the firm and its network of affiliated portfolio companies on a broad range of legal issues across multiple industries, including employment and general business matters, as well as domestic and international litigation.

Prior to his in-house role, Seth was a partner at an elite boutique litigation firm in Salt Lake City, where he successfully handled numerous employment discrimination cases, trade secret disputes, and matters involving restrictive covenants, along with a wide variety of other commercial disputes. He is experienced in managing litigation from early case assessment through resolution, with a focus on aligning legal outcomes with his clients’ business objectives.

Seth began his legal career as a judicial clerk to the Honorable John R. Fisher on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. During his clerkship, he assisted in managing the court’s civil docket, which included matters involving workers’ compensation, employment discrimination, and constitutional issues such as due process and equal protection.

Seth represents clients across a wide range of industries, including energy, healthcare, biotech, ad tech, real estate, and manufacturing, among others.

He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where he received top honors in the school’s moot court competition for both Best Brief and Best Oralist. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Brigham Young University, with a second major in Political Science. He is licensed to practice in Utah.
