Emma is a Shareholder in the Portland, Oregon office and has over a decade of experience in employment litigation and advice and counsel.

In her litigation practice, Emma represents employers before administrative agencies and in state and federal court. Emma’s experience primarily includes defending single-plaintiff discrimination and retaliation claims and responding to administrative charges and demand letters.

In addition to Emma’s extensive litigation practice, Emma provides advice and counsel to employers. Emma’s approach is to help employers avoid legal exposure, while also considering best practices both for her clients’ particular business needs and for their employees’ well-being. Emma frequently advises clients on all aspects of employment law, from hiring and onboarding to discipline and termination. Emma particularly enjoys helping employers navigate complex accommodation and leave issues that implicate multiple legal obligations.

Emma also assists clients in drafting employee handbooks and related policies, training employees and supervisors on topics such as sexual harassment, and drafting employment and separation agreements. In addition, Emma has served as an internal investigator for workplace complaints, including complaints relating to harassment and retaliation.

Emma also provides advice and counsel on Title IX compliance. Emma’s Title IX work includes preparing Title IX policies and procedures; training Title IX coordinators, investigators, and decision-makers; and serving as a Title IX investigator.

Prior to joining Ogletree, Emma was a partner at a national law firm in Memphis, Tennessee, where she represented employers of all sizes in a wide range of industries. While at that firm, Emma won several dispositive motions, a week-long FINRA arbitration, and a dispositive spoliation issue that was affirmed by the Tennessee Court of Appeals.
