Eric Compere is a shareholder in the Los Angeles office of Ogletree Deakins, where he helps employers navigate workplace safety and health issues, including OSHA and Cal/OSHA compliance and enforcement matters. He regularly advises employers on regulatory compliance and represents them in administrative hearings, writ proceedings, and appeals before state and federal agencies and courts.
Eric previously served as an enforcement attorney with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA). That experience gives him a practical, insider understanding of how regulators approach inspections and enforcement; insight he now uses to help employers prepare for OSHA inspections and manage agency investigations with confidence. Eric advises clients on incident response matters, including serious workplace accidents, employee fatalities, and chemical or hazardous material releases. Additionally, he works with employers on privileged safety audits, safety program development, and the implementation of policies and procedures aimed at improving workplace safety.
Eric brings more than 20 years of litigation experience to his workplace safety practice. Prior to his government service, he spent over a decade representing clients in complex litigation in state and federal courts. Today, he draws on both his litigation background and his time as a Cal/OSHA enforcement attorney to provide practical, business-minded representation for his clients. He has also represented employers in whistleblower retaliation claims brought under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
Eric understands that resolving matters efficiently is often in a client’s best interest and has successfully guided employers to favorable resolutions of ergonomic and fall protection citations that could have resulted in significant operational changes and costs. Eric also advises employers on safety considerations related to capital improvement projects and helps assess potential liability exposure associated with identified safety issues.
In addition to enforcement and litigation matters, Eric assists employers and industry groups on regulatory issues, including drafting comments for submission to OSHA and preparing amicus briefs on matters important to the regulated community. He has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including logistics, manufacturing, food and beverage, retail, healthcare, energy, logging, construction, and agriculture.
