John E. Duke

Of Counsel   |   Austin

John Duke helps employers manage their most challenging labor relations and workplace disputes, from union organizing campaigns and collective bargaining negotiations to employment litigation and day-to-day counseling.

A significant portion of John’s practice focuses on traditional labor law. He counsels employers on union organizing campaigns, collective bargaining negotiations, strikes, lockouts, corporate campaigns, and other labor relations matters. He regularly represents employers before the National Labor Relations Board in representation and unfair labor practice proceedings and serves as lead counsel in labor arbitrations involving contract interpretation, discipline, and other workplace disputes.

John also represents employers in state and federal courts and arbitration proceedings involving employment-related claims. His experience includes single-plaintiff litigation, class and collective actions, and disputes involving restrictive covenants, trade secrets, confidential information, and unfair competition. He also handles other complex workplace litigation and provides practical, day-to-day advice on employee relations issues and compliance with federal and state employment laws.

John works closely with employers, management teams, and human resources professionals to address workplace challenges, manage labor relations issues, and reduce litigation risk. He also advises clients on the labor and employment aspects of corporate transactions, restructurings, and other significant business initiatives.

John is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also a member of the Texas Bar College and frequently speaks and writes on labor and employment topics.
