SEATTLE – November 4, 2026 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Tobias “Toby” Piering to the firm’s Seattle office as a shareholder. He joins Ogletree Deakins from Amazon.com, Inc., where he was senior corporate counsel for eight years.
Piering brings nearly 15 years of experience advising Fortune 50 employers on their most significant workforce challenges. At Amazon, he served as lead employment counsel for the company’s U.S. operations, guiding strategy on large-scale employment matters and developing legal solutions designed to reduce risk across one of the world’s largest workforces. He also helped pioneer AI-enabled legal support tools and designed scalable legal and compliance frameworks for high-volume workplace operations.
Before joining Amazon, Piering was counsel at Ashurst Perkins Coie, where he represented Fortune 50 technology and aerospace companies in complex employment litigation, including multimillion-dollar class and collective actions, and advised employers on a wide range of workplace compliance and risk-management issues.
“Few lawyers have Toby’s combination of sophisticated litigation experience, in-house leadership, and experience solving employment challenges at extraordinary scale,” said Adam Pankratz, office managing shareholder in Seattle. “He’s helped develop innovative solutions for some of the most complex workforce issues facing global employers today, and that perspective will be invaluable to our clients.”
“Employers are navigating rapid change, from evolving workplace regulations to increased use of technology and AI in the employment landscape,” said Piering. “Ogletree Deakins has built a reputation for helping employers stay ahead of those challenges. I’m excited to join a team that shares my focus on innovation, practical problem-solving, and delivering solutions that work at scale.”
Piering earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of Arizona – James E. Rogers College of Law, and his B.S., cum laude, from the University of Oregon.
Piering’s arrival at Ogletree Deakins continues the firm’s rapid growth, as more than 35 shareholders have joined this year alone.
