The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed sweeping changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) overtime regulations, including, among other things, a call for an increase in the minimum salary required for the FLSA’s executive, administrative, and professional exemptions. The proposed regulations more than double the current minimum salary of $455 per week to a salary of not less than $921 per week, which annualizes to $47,892. (The annual compensation threshold could be more than $50,000 per year by the time the final rule takes effect.) The government is changing the FLSA’s most-litigated overtime exemptions. Be ready!
