Washington State’s “Safe Start” Plan: An Update for Employers

On May 5, 2020, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee initiated phase 1 of the state’s “Safe Start” plan. In this webinar, the speakers will offer insights for Washington employers that are creating return-to-work plans during this phased reopening. Topics will include:

• the basics of the phased reopening plan and when businesses can expect to reopen;
• health and safety measures to mitigate risk, including health screenings, temperature checks, face coverings, and employee attestations;
• updating employee leave policies prior to recall;
• facilitating employee return to work, including whom to recall;
• managing employee refusals to return to work;
• accommodating “high risk” employees with temporary job restructuring, transfers, modified work schedules, and leave;
• excluding “high risk” employees from the workplace when their disability poses a “direct threat” to their health; and
• revising employee travel policies.
