On January 25, 2010, Governor Chris Christie nominated Hal Wirths, a Sussex County freeholder and small-business owner, for the position of New Jersey Labor Commissioner. Wirths has advised that if confirmed for this post, his initial focus will be unemployment in the state. Wirths’ nomination is expected to be before the Senate the first week of February with hearings and votes scheduled during the subsequent 30 to 45 days.
