Senate bill S1262, which would prohibit public entities and public employees from entering into confidential court settlements of claims or court actions against them, was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in May.  The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.  The bill provides that such settlements would constitute public records under the State’s Open Public Records Act (OPRA).
