Ogletree Deakins’ Ron Chapman, Jr. Named Rising Legal Star Under 40 by Law360

   |   Press Release

One of only 10 selected in the country for employment law

DALLAS, TX – March 24, 2010 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the nation’s largest labor and employment law firms, announced today that Ron Chapman, Jr. has been selected a Rising Legal Star Under 40 by Law360.  Chapman, 39, is one of only 10 in the country to be selected as top legal talent under 40 in the area of employment law.

“He is always thinking about how he can advance the interest of the clients and this causes them to gravitate toward him,” said Kim Ebert, the firm’s managing shareholder.  “As a consequence, he has developed a huge practice at a very young age.”

Chapman is the counsel of choice for many high profile companies.  In his career, he has defended clients in more than 25 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands, including class and collective actions.  Serving as lead counsel, some notable cases include: Bell et al. v. Raytheon Co.; Sooter et al. v. Jefferson Dental Clinics, P.C.; and Jusuf v. Southwest Airlines.

In his practice, Chapman represents employers in all areas of labor and employment law, including employment agreements and policies, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, non-competition and non-disclosure covenants, leaves of absence, unfair labor practices, union campaigns, collective bargaining, and workplace safety issues.

He also provides counseling to HR professionals and business owners, helping them navigate both legal and practical considerations.  Chapman is Board Certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America.  Similarly, Chambers USA lists Chapman as a “Leading Lawyer”.

Based on his effectiveness and accomplishments in litigation and superior ethical reputation, Chapman was selected as a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.  He is also rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating available, as a testament to the fact that his peers “rank him at the highest level of professional excellence”.

Chapman is active in his local community.  Pursuant to an appointment by the Mayor of Dallas and the City Council, he serves as Chairman of the city’s Civil Service Board, which considers personnel disputes concerning city employees.  Chapman is also experienced as a valued media source. Both national and local publications have relied on him as a commentator on employment law issues, including Employment Law 360.  Similarly, Chapman has participated on multiple radio shows as an expert on labor and employment law issues.  He is a frequent speaker at employment law seminars, routinely receiving positive reviews for his ability to explain complex issues in a straightforward manner.
