ATLANTA – May 8, 2014 – Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins), one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Army Sgt. First Class Cory Remsburg has been awarded the firm’s first annual Homer Deakins Award. The Homer Deakins Award is given by Ogletree Deakins to recognize an individual who, through selfless and courageous action, has given of themselves in order to help and inspire others, demonstrating the true spirit of giving.
Remsburg, who was recognized by President Obama during the 2014 State of the Union Address, was critically injured by a 2009 roadside bomb in Afghanistan during his 10th overseas deployment. Though he is partially paralyzed, brain-damaged, and blind in one eye, Remsburg has shown incredible resilience in the face of unbelievable obstacles. Against all odds, he’s regained the ability to speak and walk and is determined to one day serve his country again.
As part of the award, Ogletree Deakins has donated $10,000 to Lead The Way Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization established to raise funds in support of disabled U.S. Army Rangers and the families of Rangers who have died, have been injured, or are currently serving in harm’s way around the world.
