Ogletree Deakins Grows Employment Litigation Practice in Boston, Welcomes Lisa Stephanian Burton as Shareholder

   |   Press Release

BOSTON – July 12, 2017 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Lisa Stephanian Burton as a shareholder in the firm’s Boston office. Burton joins Ogletree Deakins from Morgan Lewis, where she was a partner and handled a broad range of labor and employment matters, including business immigration. She works frequently with employers in the life sciences, healthcare, technology, retail, and financial services industries.

Burton defends employers in litigation and counsels them on labor and employment issues that include wage and hour, discrimination, and leaves of absence.  Burton’s employment litigation practice includes representing employers in state and federal courts as well as defending employers in claims brought in state and federal agencies.  Burton has a highly successful track record defending employers in wage and hour class and collective actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state law, as well as employment discrimination cases, including claims of race, gender, age, disability discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination cases.

“Lisa is an experienced counselor and tenacious advocate on behalf of her clients,” said Mark Burak, managing shareholder of Ogletree’s Boston office. “She’s very valuable to employers who often grapple with the intersection of immigration and employment law, which is a particularly hot topic under the current administration.”

In her labor and employment counseling practice, Burton advises clients on employment practices and policies. She counsels employers on structuring the workforce, labor and employment implications of mergers and acquisitions, and hiring, firing, and reductions in force. She also guides companies in matters involving the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“I am thrilled to join Ogletree Deakins,” Burton said. “The firm provides an ideal platform of incredibly sophisticated and high quality representation in all aspects of employment and labor law nationally and internationally, and it does so efficiently and cost effectively.”

Burton was ranked in Chambers USA for 2017 and is a member of the Armenian Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Women’s Bar Association, and American Immigration Lawyers Bar Association. She earned her J.D. from Emory University School of Law.
