ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – July 1, 2019 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that prominent ERISA litigator Jenny Wang will join the firm’s Orange County office as a shareholder. Wang will practice in the firm’s ERISA Litigation Practice Group, which has steadily expanded over the past decade and now includes more than 20 attorneys in multiple offices throughout the country. According to data published by Lex Machina in May 2019, Ogletree Deakins’ ERISA litigation team handled more ERISA litigation matters than any other law firm in the U.S. from 2016-2018.
“Jenny has many years of experience representing ERISA plan sponsors and insurers in cases throughout California and the Southwest U.S.,” said Mark Schmidtke, chair of the Ogletree Deakins’ ERISA Litigation Practice Group. “The firm’s ERISA Litigation group has substantial work in Southern California and has been looking for the right person there for several years. Jenny is a perfect fit, and our clients will benefit immediately from her extensive knowledge and commitment to client service.”
Wang joins Ogletree Deakins from Hinshaw & Culbertson and has more than 20 years of experience defending employers and insurers in ERISA-governed benefits litigation. She regularly represents clients in actions involving employee claims for long-term disability benefits under employer-sponsored benefit plans and claims of alleged abuse of discretion afforded to ERISA plan fiduciaries. She has also earned significant experience in litigation in state, federal, and appellate courts within the Ninth Circuit on matters involving first-party claims for breach of insurance contracts, bad faith, unfair competition, and fraud. Wang has negotiated settlements in disputes involving multi-million dollar insurance contracts and has participated in more than 100 mediations and court-sponsored settlement conferences.
Wang was a 2015 Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and is a member of the Defense Research Institute, National Association of Women Lawyers, and Korean-American Bar Association. She earned her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1997 and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1994.
