Ogletree Deakins Launches New Compliance Subscription Focusing on Marijuana Laws and Other Workplace Marijuana Issues

   |   Press Release

ATLANTA – May 5, 2021 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is expanding its OD Comply™ platform with the launch of OD Comply: Marijuana, a flat-fee, subscription-based service that provides a concise, up-to-date, and practical guide to employment-related marijuana legal compliance in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

OD Comply: Marijuana was created in response to rapid developments in marijuana legalization and the many ways it is affecting employers and their workplaces. OD Comply: Marijuana was developed by a team of Ogletree Deakins’ attorneys—with hands-on experience litigating marijuana-related matters and providing business-centric compliance guidance—to provide employers with an easy-to-use, cost-effective tool.

OD Comply: Marijuana is searchable and customizable and includes continuously updated state and major locality summaries on medical and recreational marijuana legalization laws, as well as guidance on complex issues that employers increasingly face, including disability discrimination laws implicated by the use of medical marijuana and drug testing laws impacting marijuana testing. The subscription also includes a decision tree to help analyze employment issues raised by legalized recreational and medical marijuana use, timely email alerts about new laws and developments, as well as template materials, checklists, and more.

“Already in 2021, New Mexico, New York, and Virginia have passed laws legalizing recreational marijuana, with many more considering medical or recreational marijuana legalization laws. The differences in laws from state to state and the pace of new and amended laws make it difficult for employers to stay in front of this fast-moving topic,” said Tae Phillips, shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Birmingham office and author of OD Comply: Marijuana.

Stephen Woods, shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Greenville office and chair of the firm’s OD Comply™ compliance solutions group added, “We created OD Comply: Marijuana in direct response to client needs. It’s a valuable new tool that will that help employers stay compliant with another rapidly changing state and major locality law.”

OD Comply: Marijuana is the latest addition to Ogletree Deakins’ OD Comply™ suite of materials. OD Comply™ is a user-friendly subscription solution that helps keep employers in compliance on the most common multi-state issues, including background checks, state wage and hour, state leave laws, and others.
