Deepa N. Subramanian

Deepa Subramanian represents employers in all aspects of employment law, including employment litigation and counseling.  Ms. Subramanian advises and defends clients in federal and state employment-related lawsuits, including actions alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, violations of wage and hour law, and breach of contract. In addition, Ms. Subramanian provides advice to employers concerning litigation avoidance, leaves of absence, employee discipline, hiring and termination issues, reductions in force, and other personnel matters. Ms. Subramanian also has experience reviewing and creating employee handbooks and policies, drafting and negotiating employment agreements, severance agreements, covenants not to compete and non-solicitation agreements, in addition to providing training for employers and employees on employment-related issues.

Prior to joining Ogletree, Ms. Subramanian worked for another labor and employment firm in Atlanta, Georgia. While in law school, she was an Authorities Editor for the Journal of Transnational Law as well as on the boards of the Vanderbilt Bar Association, the South Asian Law Students Association, and the Vanderbilt Mock Trial team. She speaks fluent Tamil.


Deepa handles single plaintiff and multi-plaintiff matters for large, multi-state and multi-national companies as well as smaller, single-location companies.  Additionally, Deepa has provided trainings and seminars for clients and non-clients alike—on topics such as social networking and performing proper investigations into employee complaints.  She assists her clients with prevention work and policy drafting with the goal of litigation prevention in mind but will stay with the client until the very end if litigation ensues.

Deepa has delved into the Fair Credit Reporting Act (including exploring preemption and actions against providers of information) and has assisted clients in responding to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development housing discrimination complaints.

While in law school, Deepa clerked for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (UNICTR) and assisted with the drafting and preparation of briefs and legal research to assist in the trials against those accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity as a result of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
