Florence Z. Mao

Of Counsel   |   Portland (OR)

Flo Mao understands that employers need an attorney who partners with them to resolve workplace issues long before they become legal disputes – and in the unfortunate event that legal disputes arise – vigorously advocate for them in court and administrative forums.

Flo helps clients in three primary ways: navigating ever-changing employment laws in Oregon and Washington (and beyond); conducting workplace investigations involving employee complaints; and defending employers against allegations of discrimination, harassment, or unlawful termination in state and federal courts and administrative forums. Clients have noted that Flo is “in demand” to provide her legal services in the Pacific Northwest and “consistently delivers invaluable guidance that is both legally sound and highly practical.”

Flo advises and counsels employers on all aspects of employment law. She is regularly called upon to advise on family, medical, and disability leave issues. Having followed the legislation since its inception, Flo has helped employers of all sizes comply with Oregon’s Paid Family and Medical Leave law. Flo has successfully secured dismissals of numerous charges of discrimination and wrongful termination filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, and the Washington Department of Labor and Industries, and handled investigations and enforcement actions with the U.S. Department of Labor. Flo also has trial experience in state and federal courts.

Flo regularly works with clients in the technology, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, and construction industries. Her dedication to client service and legal excellence has earned her accolades through Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch and Oregon Super Lawyers (Rising Star).
