Paul is a native of North Carolina and has spent the past 18 years resolving workplace disputes for his clients.  Paul provides a practical, client-focused approach to resolve difficult personnel issues while minimizing legal risk and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Paul has been a zealous advocate for clients in proceedings before the EEOC, DOL, NCDOL and other federal, state and local agencies.  He is exceptional at engaging Ogletree Deakins’ resources to meet the needs of employers with multi-state operations, and is a trusted advocate for regional and local clients.  Paul’s dedication to his clients and reputation among his peers has garnered national and local recognition from numerous publications, including The Best Lawyers in America© and Business North Carolina©.

Paul advises employers of their obligations under a myriad of North Carolina and federal laws, including Title VII, the FMLA, the ADA, the FLSA, the PDA, the EPA, HIPAA, the NLRA, the ADEA, the FCRA, USERRA, GINA, WARN, the NCWHA, the NCCSERA and REDA.  He has defended dozens of legal claims for employers in a variety of industries, including the health care, manufacturing, assisted living, financial services, higher education and manufacturing sectors.  Paul’s legal practice also includes conducting workplace investigations, preparing personnel policies, revising Employee Handbooks, facilitating corporate restructuring and engaging in performance management.

Paul has given 59 presentations on a plethora of workplace law topics to various management and human resources groups. His presentations focus on efficiently resolving workplace issues to foster productive work environments.

Prior to law school, Paul hiked more than 1,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail.  Paul’s five-month journey began in Springer Mountain, Georgia; continued through North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Pennsylvania; and ended at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in New Jersey.  Paul’s work history includes a stint as a Staff Assistant on Capitol Hill for Congressman Walter B. Jones.

Paul resides in Raleigh with his wife, Ingrid, and two young sons. His oldest son – JT – is a rule follower; his youngest son – Harry – is prone to mischief.  In 2016 and 2017, Paul participated in the Blue Ridge Relay – which is a 209-mile relay race in the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Paul is an avid tennis player and has won multiple USTA NC State Championships. In his free time Paul also enjoys fly fishing and numerous outdoor pursuits.
