Stesha A. Emmanuel is a shareholder in the Boston office and licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Stesha assists employers in a wide range of employment-related litigation matters including allegations of discrimination, harassment and wrongful terminations before state and federal courts, in addition to administrative agencies. She routinely advises clients from the inception of matters through resolution. Her approach to litigation is greatly influenced by her time as a judicial law clerk at the appellate level and her ability to view complex issues from all angles to anticipate and inform her defense strategy. Stesha frequently emphasizes the importance of developing a robust and comprehensive defense strategy at the outset of any matter as a fundamental building block.
Stesha also has extensive experience and regularly conducts internal investigations related to allegations of misconduct, race and sex discrimination, religious discrimination, national origin discrimination, failure to promote, retaliation, hostile work environment allegations and compliance violations. Stesha’s practice is also centered on her work with higher education institutions where she conducts investigations under Title VI, Title VII and Title IX. She also chairs Title IX adjudication panels.
Prior to joining Ogletree, Stesha worked at litigation firms in Boston. She was a two-year judicial law clerk for the Honorable Frederick Brown (ret.) of the Massachusetts Appeals Court. She devotes a significant amount of time to community and legal organizations, including serving as the former President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association (MBLA) and Board Director of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts. For several years, Stesha oversaw the MBLA’s Know Your Rights clinic throughout the Commonwealth to provide resources and information to community members about their rights in the areas of employment law, education, criminal law, housing law and more. Stesha has been featured as a keynote speaker, panelist or moderator by various bar organizations. Additionally, Stesha has been repeatedly recognized by her peers and her distinctions include being named a 2024 New Leader in the Law by ALM New England, Top Women in the Law in Massachusetts by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and Top 40 Under 40 by the Boston Business Journal, among other honors.
