Mr. Dillard is a shareholder in Ogletree Deakins’ Greenville, South Carolina office, where he has practiced since 2003. Prior to joining Ogletree, Mr. Dillard was associated with a local general practice firm where he began his career practicing in the fields of construction defect and insurance coverage litigation. Building on that foundation, Mr. Dillard has spent the last decade representing the interests of building contractors in all manner of construction related matters, which practice has included significant litigation and trial experience in state and federal courts. Mr. Dillard’s turnkey approach to the practice of construction law has afforded him not only ample opportunity to participate in a wide range of construction contract and defect disputes, but it has also provided him with experience in dealing with the almost limitless array of legal issues that arise within the construction context, including land use and zoning conflicts, insurance coverage and bad faith claims, and even homeowners association disputes.
While Mr. Dillard’s core client base is composed of construction contractors, his experience has demonstrated that many of the skills developed within this practice are transferable to a broader litigation context. Mr. Dillard routinely handles non-employment business litigation matters for Ogletree Deakins clients. Additionally and significantly, Mr. Dillard has developed, as the result of successfully defending several significant lawsuits alleging personal harm from so-called “toxic mold”, a passion for the defense of complex tort claims, especially toxic exposure claims. As co-chair of the firm’s general litigation practice group, Mr. Dillard seeks to provide existing and prospective Ogletree clients with the same excellence in client service within the broader litigation context as that for which the firm is well known within the realm of labor and employment.
Finally, due to the close inter-relation between the construction industry and workplace safety, Mr. Dillard is Ogletree Deakins’ resident attorney in South Carolina for workplace safety and OSHA compliance, having published and lectured on the same.
A native of the Upstate of South Carolina, Mr. Dillard graduated from Furman University in 1995 and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 2001 before returning to the Greenville area, where he resides with his wife and two young children.
