Yousaf Jafri is of counsel in the San Diego office of Ogletree Deakins. He routinely defends employers in class, collective, and representative actions, including claims brought under California’s Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). He has secured dismissals of class claims via dispositive motions in dozens of cases and obtained favorable rulings through targeted motions and innovative procedural strategies. Yousaf also has extensive experience counseling his clients – which range from local to national companies – to best prevent litigation.
Yousaf also handles significant motions and appeals. He has handled appeals at the California Court of Appeal, and obtained favorable rulings before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, federal district courts, and in trial courts across the state. Yousaf has also defended clients in single-plaintiff lawsuits alleging discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and wrongful termination. In addition to the courtroom, Yousaf is experienced in arbitration proceedings, and regularly appears before the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC), and the California Civil Rights Department (CRD).
Yousaf is passionate about securing the best possible results for his clients and works hard to deliver for them. He has defended public and private employers in various industries, including mortgage lenders, transportation and logistics companies, restaurants, biotech, janitorial and maintenance companies, and staffing companies.
Prior to entering private practice, Yousaf earned his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law. During law school, he was a judicial extern for the Honorable Scott C. Clarkson of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, an Executive Editor for the USD International Law Journal, and an Associate on the USD Appellate Moot Court Board. Yousaf also belongs to the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society, and earned CALI Awards for the highest grade in his Civil Procedure and International Taxation courses.
Outside of the office, Yousaf is a Barrister in the Enright Inn of Court and serves as a Chancellor’s Associate at his undergraduate alma mater, University of California, San Diego.
