Ogletree Deakins’ Norma Manjarrez Named Latina Commissioner For Hispanic National Bar Association

CHICAGO – November 13, 2019 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that Norma Manjarrez in the firm’s Chicago office has been appointed as a 2019-2020 Latina Commissioner for the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) by HNBA National President Irene Oria.

The HNBA is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan, national membership organization that represents the interests of Hispanic legal professionals in the United States and its territories. Nationally, the organization is directed by the HNBA Board of Governors, which consists of executive officers (elected by HNBA members), 19 regional presidents, and the presidents of more than 30 affiliate organizations across the country. As the national voice of the Hispanic legal community, the HNBA also has multiple councils, divisions, sections, and committees dedicated to advancing the interests of its members, as well as addressing substantive legal issues that impact the Hispanic community and the U.S.

Manjarrez is a member of ODAdelante, Ogletree Deakins’ business resource group for Hispanic attorneys which serves as a resource and community within the firm to recruit, develop, retain, and advance Hispanic/Latino lawyers. In her practice, Manjarrez assists employers in a variety of labor and employment matters. She regularly counsels human resources professionals and in-house counsel on wage and hour issues, employment policies, employee handbooks, compliance with federal and state anti-discrimination statutes, and terminations. She provides management and non-management training on discrimination, harassment, and workplace violence in English and Spanish.

In the traditional labor space, Manjarrez is experienced in handling a variety of matters before the National Labor Relations Board, from the charge investigation phase up to and including trial and post-trial appeals. She has led labor negotiations, including drafting and revising economic and non-economic proposals, enforcement of the labor contract post execution, and defending labor grievances and unfair labor practice charges.
