MONTRÉAL – November 18, 2019 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce that the firm is opening its 54th office, which will be located in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Lucie Guimond, who joined Ogletree Deakins earlier this year, will serve as managing partner of the new office. She will be accompanied by Ryan Martin, formerly at Dentons, who joins the firm as an associate.
“We are eager to expand our presence in Canada outside of Toronto,” said Matt Keen, Ogletree Deakins’ Managing Shareholder. “This expansion will allow the firm to continue to provide exceptional service to our Québec-based clients. The province of Québec is culturally and legally unique, so adding an office in Montréal is key to our expansion.“
Backed by 30 years of experience, Guimond is fully bilingual and counsels her clients on individual and collective labor relations, occupational health and safety, privacy law, and human rights. She also frequently provides employment and labor law advice on sales and mergers of businesses. Guimond has extensive experience with workers’ compensation issues and related litigation and is highly regarded by her clients for her negotiation skills and practical wisdom. She is first and foremost a business partner for her clients and is constantly striving to arrive at novel solutions in order to achieve conflict resolution.
“Since joining Ogletree Deakins, I’ve been able to tap into the global resources provided by the firm to better serve my clients and have also realized first-hand the importance of our American clients’ need for legal assistance in Québec” Me Guimond said. “The new Montréal office will serve a critical role in our Canadian and international growth and my main goal is to staff it with the best labor and employment practitioners so that we become a major player on the market.”
“Lucie’s goal is certainly one I share for our Toronto office and our future offices in Canada, and we are well on our way towards achieving it” said Hugh Christie, Ogletree Deakins’ Managing Shareholder of the Toronto office who oversees the Canadian expansion.
Martin is also fluently bilingual. His practice focuses mainly on collective and individual labor relations. He advises clients on issues pertaining to dismissals, layoffs, health and safety in the workplace, employment standards, human rights, and the application of collective agreements or individual work contracts. Furthermore, he prepares non-compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality clauses, as well as work contracts and agreements.
