Governor Corzine Signs Bill to Allow First-Time Offenders in Minor Drug-Related Infractions to Keep Their Driving Privileges So They Can Continue to Work or Find a Job

On September 10, 2008, Governor Jon Corzine signed a measure (S1302/A1766) into law, allowing first-time offenders involved in minor drug-related infractions to keep their driving privileges.  Specifically, the bill removes the mandatory six-month to two-year forfeiture of driving privileges for first-time offenders charged with disorderly persons offenses involving infractions of drug laws.  As explained by Senator Nick Sacco, who introduced the bill with Senator Brian Stack, “this new law will help those who made minor mistakes keep their driving licenses so they can get to work or look for jobs.”
