GREENVILLE, SC – August 17, 2009 – The Greenville office of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C. (Ogletree Deakins) is pleased to announce that Matthew K. Johnson, a shareholder with the firm, was recently appointed by the Greenville City Council to serve as a member of the Planning Commission. Mr. Johnson’s term begins immediately and will expire on March 31, 2013.
The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on zoning and annexation issues, reviews and approves new subdivisions, and is involved in comprehensive planning to improve the health and welfare of the public.

Raised in Greenville, Matthew K. Johnson is an attorney who represents management in all aspects of employment and labor law before state and federal agencies and in courts involving cases under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and other federal laws affecting the employee-employer relationship and related state laws. In addition, he provides counsel and assistance to management clients on a variety of employment and labor law matters, including terminations, disciplinary actions, and preventive maintenance, such as the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Mr. Johnson earned his B.A. from Rhodes College in 1991 and his law degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1996.
