Mexico updates the monitoring system every two weeks, and the federal government uses it to provide guidance to the states on hygiene measures and work and mobility restrictions in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
In the report for February 1–14, 2021, 13 states were in red status, the strictest level. In the current report, only Guanajuato and Guerrero are in red status. Mexico City and the State of Mexico advanced along with nine other states to orange traffic light status, for a total of 21 states at the second-most strict level. Eight states are in yellow status, while Chiapas is the only state to be assigned green status, the level at which all activity is permitted.
This chart presents the traffic light status of each state, and, as applicable, variations between federal and local traffic light statuses based on publications of the federal Ministry of Health and status reports provided by each state.
Below is a map for the period of February 15–28, 2021, indicating the COVID-19 risk level in each of the states.
The federal government recently reported that as of February 15, 2021, there had been 2,189,873 estimated positive COVID-19 cases and 174,657 confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 in Mexico since the pandemic began. On the other hand, 1,555,923 people have recovered from COVID-19. In addition, 726,002 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 have been applied, out of the 126,014,024 million inhabitants in Mexico, which represents 0.57 percent of the national population. Hospital occupancy—one of the factors used to determine traffic light status—of general beds is at 59 percent; occupancy of beds with ventilation fans is around 60 percent. Mexico City is the only jurisdiction with a hospital occupancy higher than 70 percent.
The Ministry of Health, through the “National Vaccination Policy Against the SARS-CoV-2 Virus, for the Prevention of COVID-19 in Mexico,” foresees the following vaccination schedule for the coming months.
