Pittsburgh Office Managing Shareholder Jennifer Betts Assesses Risks of AI Surveillance Tools

   |   News

Pittsburgh Office Managing Shareholder Jennifer Betts, co-chair of Ogletree Deakins’ Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Practice Group, assessed the legal concerns surrounding AI-enabled “bossware” as states move to protect workers’ privacy.

Betts notes it’s a good idea for employers to “stay away from emotion and stress prediction” software, depending on the state, and to understand how any monitoring tool works so they can set up compliance steps under applicable state laws. She also noted that privacy, employment and AI laws can create overlapping compliance risks, and that such tools may become a subject of negotiation where employees are covered by a collective bargaining agreement, as reported by Law.com.
