Sam represents management in a wide variety of employment issues, including single-plaintiff lawsuits involving discrimination, retaliation, harassment, wrongful termination, trade secrets, restrictive covenants, and other employment-related claims. He also represents employers in pre-litigation matters before administrative agencies and provides advice and counsel on employment and separation agreements, as well as personnel practices and policies. Sam is a dedicated advisor who works closely with clients to find efficient, effective solutions.

Employment Litigation

As an employment attorney, Sam has successfully litigated federal and state claims, obtaining dismissals, summary judgments, and trial verdicts. He has handled lawsuits involving the following:

  • Missouri Human Rights Act (MHRA)
  • Missouri Uniform Trade Secrets Act (MUTSA)

  • Various state laws, including claims of wrongful discharge in violation of public policy, workers’ compensation retaliation, breach of contract, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Agency Complaints, Charges, and Investigations

Sam’s practice includes representing clients before various administrative agencies. He has prepared responses to charges of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Missouri Commission on Human Rights (MCHR), the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), and numerous state and local agencies. He has also represented employers in agency investigations and has successfully mediated and negotiated settlements of charges of discrimination. Additionally, Sam has experience conducting workplace investigations and responding to audits from the Department of Labor (DOL).

Employment Counseling

Sam routinely counsels clients on compliance with employment-related laws and regulations, litigation avoidance, and employment best practices. He has prepared and reviewed countless employment agreements to ensure compliance with various federal and state laws. Additionally, he frequently prepares and revises other employment-related documents, such as severance agreements, policies, retention agreements, offer letters, and independent contractor agreements.
