Free Speech on Campus: A Lot to Talk About

October 20, 2020

About this Webinar

This year has provided plenty of controversial issues for faculty, students, and community members to talk about—increasingly loudly and often provocatively. While recognizing the validity and value of spirited argument in academia, institutions are grappling with whether, when, and how to regulate difficult, disruptive, and sometimes violent speech and conduct. Join us for a timely discussion on the free speech issues facing higher education in the weeks leading up to the November 2020 elections and practical tips for working through these issues. The speakers will use examples ripped from the headlines to illustrate legal standards, the boundaries of free speech, and the limits on institutional authority. The speakers will offer insights of value to administrators and in-house counsel of public and private colleges and universities.
