Though most union-free organizations hope to avoid bargaining altogether, collective bargaining skills are essential for business success when an employer has some unionized locations. These skills can also play an important role in the effort to remain union-free elsewhere. In this installment of the Labor Law Foundation Series, the speakers will review key bargaining concepts (including mandatory versus permissive subjects of bargaining, requests for information, proposal development, status quo/unilateral change, and impasse) and negotiation strategies. The speakers will also share practical tips on how to manage common collective bargaining scenarios, as well as cover responses to aggressive union leverage tactics, such as strikes, picketing, and corporate campaigns.
