ATLANTA – December 2, 2025 – Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to announce the launch of the firm’s Military Workforce Practice Group, a dedicated team of attorneys focused on helping employers properly handle the growing legal and compliance issues related to service members, veterans, and military families in the civilian workforce.
As deployment numbers rise, the Armed Forces are increasingly relying on Reserve and National Guard members to meet needs both domestically and abroad. At the same time, Congress and state legislatures continue to expand the scope of rights, benefits, and protections available to service members. These trends create complex compliance obligations for employers under laws such as the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), among others.
The Military Workforce Practice Group, chaired by Birmingham shareholders Amy Quick Glenos and James A. Patton, Jr., brings together a team of experienced attorneys, many of whom are current or former military members. This group is uniquely positioned to advise employers on these military workforce matters, risk mitigation, and opportunities to provide enhanced protections for service members and veterans.
“Employers are facing an increasingly complex legal landscape due to a patchwork of federal, state, and local legislation covering service members, veterans, and their families,” said co-chair Amy Quick Glenos. Co-chair Jay Patton added, “Our team combines deep legal experience with firsthand military insight to help organizations meet their obligations and create workplaces that honor and support those who serve.”
The Military Workforce Practice Group services include:
- Representing employers in USERRA litigation, including discrimination, reemployment, and paid leave claims.
- Defending lawsuits involving service-connected disabilities under USERRA and the ADA.
- Advising on compliance with federal, state, and local military leave laws and military family leave provisions.
- Designing and implementing written policies, toolkits, and training programs for HR professionals and corporate counsel.
- Assisting with veterans’ hiring initiatives such as the DoD SkillBridge Program and Hiring Our Heroes.
